Note: There are notes below for how to make the wrist warmer longer and wider.

  • The pattern is written using American crochet terms.
  • The turning chain does not count as a stitch.
  • The Elbow-Length Crochet Wrist Warmers pattern is copyrighted by Winding Road Crochet.
  • To make the wrist warmers wider, simply continue repeating rows 2 and 3 until you have the desired length. Then work the last row.
  • To make the crochet wrist warmers longer, add any number of chains to the starting chain, then add the same number of chains to the half-double crochet number in the pattern for rows 2 and 3.
  • For the child size, to make the wrist warmers longer, add any number of chains to the starting chain then add that same number of stitches to the largest single crochet stitch number for rows 1-3.
  • The sizes are split into two patterns. The main difference between the adult sizes is that the child size only uses single crochets in the back loops only. Children tend to have thinner forearms that do not get wider up near the elbow. (At least my 6 and 10 year old showed this.)
  • The stitch count for each row is in the parenthesis at the end of the row.

Adult Size Crochet Wrist Warmer

CH 47 (Leave a 10-inch starting yarn end for sewing)

Row 1: SC into the second CH from the hook. SC into each CH across. (46)

Row 2: CH1, turn, SC in the BLO of the first 5 STs, *(SC, DC) into the next ST, Skip a ST* repeat from *to* a total of 7 times. SC in next ST. SC in the BLO of the next 10 STs, HDC in the BLO of the next 16 STs. (46)

Row 3: CH1, turn, HDC in the BLO of the first 13 STs, SC in the BLO of the next 13 STs, *(SC, DC) into the next ST, Skip a ST* repeat from *to* a total of 7 times. SC into the next ST. SC into the BLO of the last 5 STs. (46)

To continue working the pattern, you will simply repeat rows 2 and 3 until you reach the required amount of rows or until the wrist warmer fits around your arm. I recommend repeating rows 2 and 3 and ending with row 3. This places our yarn ends so that they can be used to sew up the wrist warmer.

For the adult size, repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have a total of 27 rows.

For the large adult size, repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have a total of 31 rows.

Fasten off leaving a 16-inch yarn end. You should have a long yarn end on both sides of the wrist warmer.

To finish your wrist warmers, fold the wrist warmer in half lengthwise so that row 1 and the last row are touching. Use the longer yarn end to sew a whip stitch from the elbow area up 7 inches, then weave in your end. Use the yarn end by the finger side to sew down 1.5 inches using a whip stitch. Weave in your ends. Make a second crochet wrist warmer!
