Row 17: CH 1, turn, Work 2SC into the first ST. SC in the next 15 STs. (17)
Note: You can make the triangle larger by increasing in the first stitch of each row and single crocheting across. Repeat this technique until the triangle is as large as you would like it.
Row 18 (Border): CH1, turn so that you are working down the side of rows 1-17. Work 1 SC into the side of each row (17 SC), CH2, turn so that you are working up the opposite side of rows 1-17. Work 1 SC into the side of each row. (17 SC) (34 SC and 2 CH total)
Fasten off and weave in your ends. To get the pieces to lay flat, lightly mist them with water and place a towel and something heavy on them for 10 minutes. Then remove the weight and towel and let them dry. You can also use a blocking board.
Embroidering the Crochet Garland (Optional)
Before joining the triangles together, you will want to add any letters to the garland. The easiest way to embroider the letter to the garland is to make a single stitch between any spots where sections where the letter joins. This would be any place on the letters that create a corner.
One tip is to write the letter on a piece of paper and place the paper over the triangle to determine where to begin embroidering. If you want you can even embroider large stitches through the paper, then rip the paper off when you are done.
Another quick tip is to know that you do not have to only embroider with the gaps between stitches. You can insert your needle in the middle of a single crochet stitch if that is where you want to place the end of your stitch.
Joining the Crochet Garland
To connect the triangles, start with a chain. Chain however many you need to hang your banner. I used a chain on 15.
To connect the first triangle, SC into the side of the border row stitch, SC into each ST from row 17, work 1 SC into the side of the border row stitch. To connect the second triangle, crochet directly into the next border row stitch, then along row 17, then the border row stitch. Repeat this until all the triangles are connected.
If you have two words in the banner, you can separate the words with a few chains. You can also separate the triangles with chains and add acorns and leaves between the triangles. Here is a video on how to crochet an acorn and fall leaves.
Once all your triangles are connected your Autumn Cheer Crochet Garland is complete. Make this garland in many different colors for different seasons and holidays.
