Notes:
– I do not count my CH1, turning chain, as a stitch.
– Start your pumpkin with a long starting yarn end. This will be used when gathering up the pumpkin.
– You can find a video tutorial for this tiny pumpkin here.
Tiny Crochet Pumpkin
CH 12 with Off White (Aran) yarn.
Row 1: SC in second CH from the hook, SC in next ST, HDC in next 7 CH, SC in last 2 CH. (4 SC, 7 HDC)
Rows 2-20: CH1, turn, BLOSC in first 2 STs, BLOHDC in next 7 STs, BLOSC in last 2 STs.
Fasten off leaving a 12-inch long yarn end. Follow the steps below to gather, stuff, and sew up the pumpkin.
Step 1. Sew a gathering stitch along the bottom of the pumpkin and pull tight. Then, make 2 stitches to secure the gather and close up the bottom of the pumpkin.
Step 2: Use a whip stitch to sew the first and last row of the pumpkin base together. When you reach the top of your pumpkin, knot your two yarn ends together to secure.
Steps 3 and 4: Sew a gathering stitch around the top of the pumpkin. Stuff your pumpkin. Pull the gathering stitch tight to close the top. Make a knot to secure the top of the pumpkin.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Pumpkin Stem
Note: Leave a long starting and ending yarn end to use to attach the pumpkin stem to the pumpkin.
Row 1: CH3 with brown or green yarn, SC into the second and third chain from the hook. (2 SC)
Fasten off leaving a 5-inch yarn end. We will use this to cinch down the pumpkin, as shown in the photos below.
Cinching the Pumpin
Step 1: Use a yarn needle to thread your yarn ends from the top to the bottom of the pumpkin.
Step 2: Pull the yarn ends tight and knot them together. You can use these yarn ends to sew the pumpkin to the top of the top hat. I would sew a green leaf to the pumpkin before sewing the pumpkin on top of the hat.
Crochet Leaf (Make 2 in Red and 2 in Gold, 1 in Green)
Note: The leaf is worked in all one row. You will work in both sides of the turning chain. You can find a video tutorial for this leaf here.
CH 7 with Green Yarn
Row 1 (first half): Work a (DC, TR) in the third CH from the hook. Work a 2TR in the next CH. Work 2DC in the next CH, HDC in the next CH, SC in the next CH.
Row 1 (second half): CH 2, turn your work so you are working into the opposite side of the starting chain. SC in the next CH, HDC in the next CH, Work 2DC in the next CH, Work 2TR in the next CH, Work (TR, DC) in the next CH. CH2, SLST to the same chain that you worked the (DC, TR) to. CH 3 (or more). This last chain is your leaf stem.

Crochet Acorn Pattern
Notes:
– Acorn’s bottom is crocheted in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to keep track of your rows.
– The Acorn top is crocheted in joined rounds.
– For the Acorn top, the CH2, does not count as a stitch.
– You can watch the video tutorial for this acorn here.
Acorn Top
Note: If you find that the acorn top is a little too small for the acorn bottom, then change the 12 DC to 13 DC in the pattern. I found that this change depends on the thickness of the yarn color. Some colors like dark brown tend to be thicker than lighter colors in the same yarn brand.
Row 1: With coffee brown yarn: Make a Magic Circle, CH2, Work 12 DC in magic circle. SLST to first DC. (12 DC)
Alternative Row 1: CH3, Work 12 DC in third CH from hook. SLST to first DC. (Use this Row 1 if you do not want to use a magic circle.)
Row 2: CH1, SC in next 12 STs. SLST to first SC.
Fasten off leaving a long yarn end to sew the acorn top to the acorn bottom. You can also use hot glue to attach the two pieces.
Acorn Stem
Row 1: With Coffe Brown yarn, CH 3, SLST to the second and third CH from the hook. (2 SLST)
Fasten off leaving a 4-inch yarn end. Thread both yarn end through the top of the acorn top and knot them on the underside to secure them.

Row 3: *SC in next ST, Work 2 SC in next ST* repeat from *to* a total of 4 times. (12 SC)
Rows 4-6: SC in next 12 STs.
Fasten off and weave in your ends. Lightly stuff the acorn bottom with polyfil. Use the last yarn end of the acorn top to sew the acorn top to the acorn bottom. You can also use hot glue to attach the two pieces.
Feet (Make 2)
With Medium Brown yarn.
Round 1: Work 8 SC in a MC. (8)
Alternative Round 1: CH2, Work 8 SC into 2nd CH from hook. (8)

Round 1: Work 6 SC in a MC. (6)
Round 2: *SC in the next ST, Work 2SC into the next ST* repeat from *to* a total of times. (9)
Round 3: SC in the next 9 STs. (9)
Round 4: *SC in next ST, SC2TOG* repeat from *to* a total of 3 times. . (6)
Fasten off leaving a 10-inch tail to sew the nose to the body.
Crochet Gnome Beard (Male Gnome)
With Light Grey yarn.
Row 1: Work 3 SC into a magic circle. (Alternative: CH2, work 3 SC into 2nd CH from hook.)
Row 2: CH1, turn, Work 2 SC into the first ST, Work 3 SC into the next ST, Work 2 SC into last ST. Fasten off.
Cut 21 eight-inch strands of yarn for the beard. Group three strands together and attach them to the 7 single crochet like you would add fringe to a scarf. (See Photo Above)
Before stuffing your gnome, sew your beard onto your gnome in a U shape. Make sure to leave room for the nose and keep the ends close to the edge of the top of the body to be able to hide them with the hat.
If you choose, braid your beard and secure it with a small piece of yarn.
Give your beard a little trim to shape and lightly mist it with some water, style the beard and let it dry that way to hold that shape.
If you wish, you can untwist the yarn in the beard to have more hair-like strands.
Braids (Make 2) (For Female Gnome)
CH7 with Gold.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd CH from hook and each CH across. Fasten off. (6)
Cut 24 10-inch strands of gold yarn for the two braids. Attach two strands of yarn to each Single Crochet like you would attach fringe to a scarf. Grab 3 groups of 8 strands and braid the hair together. Use a piece of yarn to secure the braids at the bottom. Sew the braids onto the body of the gnome before stuffing the gnome.
Crochet Autumn Gnome Assembly Instructions
You can use a yarn needle and yarn to sew each piece together in the order listed below or you can hot glue the pieces together (this is what I did) if they are not going to be played with by kids.
1. Sew the feet to the front of the gnome.
2. Stuff gnome body.
3. Sew the beard onto the gnome. Style the beard and trim it. Sew the nose on top of the beard. (If making a girl, sew the nose in the center of the gnome and sew the braids on each side of the nose.)
4. Sew the acorn to both arms and sew both gnome arms onto the gnome.
5. Sew the pumpkin, and leaves onto the gnome hat. Sew the hat onto the gnome.
6. Enjoy your gnome!
I truly hope you enjoyed the crochet autumn gnome pattern and will check back for more fun crochet gnome patterns.
