Staying Organized with a Crochet Pencil Pouch

With a child in preschool and third grade, we have alphabet, numbers, multiplication, and division flashcards scattered around the house. We are always on the go from school, to dance, to martial arts class and need to take our homework with us. So I created these cute pencil-themed card pouches to keep the flashcards organized in our school bag. After making a few crochet ouches for myself, I thought I would share the pattern with you for your own school supplies or as a cute teacher’s gift.

Adjusting the Size

The pattern for this crochet pencil pouch is quite simple. If you want to make the pouch narrower or wider just adjust the starting chain. You can add extra rows to make the pouch taller so that it can hold actual pencils and pens.

To create the pointed flap, you will want to work the pattern how it is written but adjust the number of double crochets between the first row with decreases so that you are only working over half of the stitches of that row.

If you have any questions on adjustments, feel free to leave a comment with the number of stitches in your row and I can help get you started with the decreasing rows.

The Premium Ad-Free PDF Pattern

Below you will find the free pattern with all the instructional photos and videos needed to complete the pattern, but I am also aware that several of us like to crochet on the couch, in the car, or in bed with a printout of the pattern. This is why I also offer a nicely formatted large font PDF version of the pattern that can be purchased on Etsy or Ravelry. You can print the pattern and take it on the go with you or tuck it into your project bag.

Notes:
-Written in US terms.
– I do not count my CH2, turning chain, as a stitch.
– This pattern is worked in joined rounds that start with a foundation chain. We will work on both sides of the foundation chain. See the pictures for clarification.

– The Crochet Pencil Pouch pattern is copyrighted by Winding Road Crochet.
– This pattern is written for the flash card pouch with notes on how to make the pouch longer for the writing tools pouch.
– This pattern does not have a buttonhole for the button closure. Instead, we are using a 1/2 inch button that should be able to push between two double crochet stitches to close.
