Welcome to Lesson 3 of the Tunisian Crochet Course. In this lesson, we will learn how to crochet the Tunisian Knit stitch. If this is your first time hearing about this crochet course, then consider checking out the Prep Lesson to learn about the course and materials needed or jump to Lesson 1 to start learning Tunisian Crochet.
In January 2021 we are treating this course like a Crochet along. It is always fun to learn new things alongside others. To participate in the crochet along, just join the Our Crochet Journey Facebook group to be able to share photos of your work.
The Tunisian Knit Stitch – Tks
I just love the Tunisian Knit stitch. It really does look like the stockinette knit stitch with knitting on the front and purling on the back. This stitch does like to curl so keep that in mind when you use it for projects.
The knit stitch is very similar to the Tunisian Simple Stitch. We will be inserting our hook between the front and back vertical bar, but this time we will push our hook out the back of our project. We will yarn over on the back side and pull the loop through the stitch.
This will turn the front and back vertical bars so that they make a ‘V’ shape on the front of your work.
The last stitch of the row and the return pass is worked just like the Tunisian simple stitch that we learned in Lesson 1. Watch the video tutorial below to see exactly how the stitch is done.
Tunisian Knit Stitch Video Tutorial
This video tutorial will show you how to crochet the Tunisian Knit Stitch and how to bind off.
Homework
To practice the Tunisian Knit Stitch, start with a foundation chain of 15, work a normal foundation row. Then work 5-10 rows of the Tunisian Knit Stitch.
Keep an eye on the tension on your first and last stitch. Use the tips from Lesson 2 to help adjust their tension. You will probably notice a lot of curl with the Tunisian Knit Stitch. This is completely normal.
After severals rows, bind off with a slip stitch or single crochet bind off.
When you are done with your sample swatch, consider sharing a photo with us on this Facebook Group Post. You can also jump back to Practice Pattern 1, the Tunisian Washcloth. The pattern has been updated so you can also make it with the Tunisian Knit stitch or wait until Thursday for practice pattern 2.
