Quick Crochet Hat: Last Minute Crochet Gift

When I decided to crochet a hat for all 14 members of my family 3 weeks before the holidays. The Hygge Beanie is the quick crochet hat pattern that I turn to.

Below you will find the complete pattern in two yarn sizes for this quick crochet hat pattern. You will also find all the materials, stitches, gauge, and sizing information.

Last Minute Quick Crochet Hat Marathon

I tend to come up with crazy unrealistic ideas, like crocheting 14 hats in less than a week. I wanted to make a hat for everyone in my immediate family. That would normally be impossible but this hat works up so fast that I completed 11 hats in just 3 days. No, I do not know how many actual hours I spend crocheting, but I did complete my goal. Now all those hats are in the mail and will be like a long-distance hug for my family members.

Need to Know

Before you start your hat, I want to point out a few little details. First, this hat is worked in continuous rounds. That means there is no annoying seam down the back of the hat but the color changes for the stripes are not perfect. I have to confess that I love the stripes on this hat. I tried several color combinations and white on top with two accent colors is by far my favorite.

Yarn Substitutions

This pattern has been tested with several types of yarn and has been written for two different sizes of yarn. To keep this a quick crochet hat, I wrote the pattern for both size 5 (Bulky) and size 6 (Super Bulky) yarn. Hopefully, you will be able to find something in your yarn stash to make into last minute gifts.

For size 5 yarn, the pattern is written with Lion Brand Color Made Easy as my main yarn, but I also made matching Mommy and Me hats for my sister and niece in Caron Swirl Cakes. Other yarns that would work wonderfully include Red Heart Soft Essentials, Loops & Threads Charisma, Red Heart Super Saver Chunky, and Red Heart With Love Chunky.

Hats made with Caron Chunky Cakes

The super bulky (size 6) yarn pattern was created using Caron Cakes Chunky. Other great yarns include Caron Sprinkle Cakes, and Loops and Thread Cozy Wool. I did not get a chance to try Bernat Blanket but it would be so cozy. I will say that I did test Lion Brand Thick and Quick. It is thicker than other size 6 yarns so if you choose to use it I would make one size smaller than what you want the final hat to be.
