Make you holiday memory by crocheting these picture ornaments as gifts for friends and family or to hang on your own tree. Tuck pictures of your kids into the ornaments to make a holiday heirloom.

Below you will find the complete pattern and instructional photos for these picture ornaments. You will also find all the materials, stitches, gauge, and sizing information.

Picture Ornaments from my Childhood

In elementary school, we would be asked to bring a photo of ourselves to class and around the holidays our teacher would help us make them into little ornaments. My mom kept a box of all the ornaments we made in class. There was one box for every child full of picture ornaments.

This year my son is in online school and to keep the tradition alive we are making our own crochet picture ornaments to adorn our tree. We are also making extra ornaments to send to grandparents and great grandparents as a little ‘I love you’ gift.

Star Ornament Back

Row 1: Work 12DC into a Magic Circle. SLST to first DC. (12)
Alternative Row 1: CH3, Work 12DC into 3rd CH from hook. SLST to first DC. (12)

Fasten off leaving a very long piece of yarn to sew the backing onto the front piece.

Once the front piece has completely dried from begin stiffened, place your photo between the front and back of the star ornament. You may need to trim your photo to fit between the two ornaments with about a 1/4 of an inch gap around all sides of the photo. This will allow you room to sew the two pieces of the ornament together using a simple straight stitch or running stitch.

Once the two pieces are sewn together just add a piece of yarn or twine as a hanger and add the ornament to your tree or give it as a gift to a parent or a grandparent.
