Need a quick and easy crochet project? Maybe a last-minute gift for a teacher at the end of the school year? This easy crochet cozy that looks like a pencil is a perfect crochet teacher’s gift.
Below you will find the complete pattern and instructional photos for this easy crochet cup cozy. You will also find all the materials, stitches, gauge, and sizing information.
Easy Crochet Pencil Cup Cozy
The end of the school year is here and DIY teacher gifts are a great way to say thank you to any teacher. I know I would be lost trying to teach my son to read without the help of his first-grade teacher. So this little easy cup cozy will make a great Thank You gift.
Adding a School theme to an Existing Pattern
This quick crochet pencil cup cozy is actually the same pattern as my Buttoned Cup Cozy. I just added some stripes in the right order to make it look like a pencil.
I just love the original pattern because it works for both travel coffee cups and mugs.
Coffee Cup Cozy Printable Insert
To make your gift just a little more special, I have designed a coffee cup insert to add to your gift. These inserts are available to all newsletter subscribers.
The insert says “Thank you for being an A+ Teacher” and helps the teacher know exactly what the gift is, in case you are not gifting the crochet cup cozy with a cup. I have also included a basic “Made with Love” version of the Coffee Cup insert for when you are giving cozies as gifts for other occasions. I also have some travel mug cozy printables as well.

The Premium Ad-Free PDF Pattern
Below you will find the free pattern with all the instructional photos and videos needed to complete the pattern, but I am also aware that several of us like to crochet on the couch, in the car, or in bed with a printout of the pattern. This is why I also offer a nicely formatted ad-free large font PDF version of the pattern. You can print the pattern and take it on the go with you or tuck it into your project bag or basket.
I moved all the photos to the end of the PDF so you can reference them as you needed them and print just the pattern without using up as much ink. The Premium PDF version of the pattern can be purchased on Etsy of Ravelry.

Using a spare piece of yarn and a yarn needle, sew a 1/2 button to row 37, or grab your favorite coffee cup and use that to decide where to place the button. In the video, I used two buttons but afterwards decided only one button is needed.
Once your button is sewn on you are already to have a cup of coffee or wrap it up to use as a gift. If you are gifting the coffee cup cozy you might want to use the printable cup labels shown in the photos above. You can get access to that printable by signing up for my email newsletter.
