crochet winter motifs pattern
Crochet Holly Berries (make 3)
Note: This pattern is worked in continuous rounds.
With Red yarn.
Round 1: Work 6 SC into a Magic Circle. (6)
Alternate Round 1: CH 2, Work 6 DC into the 2nd CH from the hook. (6)
Round 2-3: SC into the next 6 STs. (6)
Fasten off and use your yarn end to weave in and out of the stitches of round 3. Pull the yarn tight to gather the stitches together and sew this end of the berry shut. If you like you can sew a few stitches to close the end of the berry without gathering it.
Crochet Holly Leaves (Make 2-3)
- Notes:
- The leaf is worked all in one row. You will work into both sides of the starting chain in one continuous row.
- When working the slip stitch into the chain, work into the backbump of the chain. If you can not do this, then you will need to chain 2 and work the slip stitch into the second chain from the hook to create the point.
With green yarn.
Row 1 (Part 1): CH 8, SC in 2nd CH from hook. *(HDC, CH1, SLST to CH, HDC) into the next CH. SC in next CH,* repeat from *to* a total of 3 times.
Row 1 (Part 2): CH1, SLST to CH, (this will all us to rotate our work so we can work into the other side of the starting chain.) SC into the CH. *(HDC, CH1, SLST to CH, HDC) into the next CH. SC in next CH,* repeat from *to* a total of 3 times.
Fasten off leaving a long yarn end.
Sew three berries together and then sew two holly leaves underneath the berries.
Idea #1
Use hot glue to attach the holly to a skewer and create a flower pick to add to your holiday decorations.
Crochet Snowflake
Note: Pattern is worked in joined rounds.
Round 1: Work 6 SC into a magic circle. SLST to the first ST. (6)
Alternate Round 1: CH 2, Work 6 SC into the 2nd CH from the hook. SLST to the first ST. (6)
Note:
- For this row, we will make a chain, work back along that chain for a few stitches, make another chain, work back along it for a few stitches, and then work into the last stitches of the first chain to create the snowflake design.
- For the snowflakes in the photo, the slip stitches were worked into the back loops of the chains.
- In round two at the end of making the first snowflake ‘arm’ you will slipstitch to the second single crochet of round 1. After making the 6th ‘arm’ you will slip stitch to the base of the first chain of round 2.
- You can also omit the last slip stitch and sew the last ‘arm’ to round 1 for a cleaning finish.
Round 2: *CH6, SLST to the 2nd and 3rd CH from the hook, CH 3, SLST to the 2nd and 3rd CH from the hook, SLST to the remaining 3 CHs from the original CH6. SLST to the next ST.* repeat from *to* a total of 6 times.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Idea #2
Sew the snowflakes onto a bobbin pin and add to your hairstyle for a wintery look.
Crochet Poinsettia
Note: Pattern is worked in joined rounds.
With Red yarn.
Round 1: Work 6 SC into a magic circle. SLST to the first ST. (6)
Alternate Round 1: CH 2, Work 6 SC into the 2nd CH from the hook. SLST to the first ST. (6)
Round 2: CH1, SC into the first ST, *CH 3, SC into the next ST* repeat from *to* a total of 5 times. CH3, SLST to the first ST. (6 SC, 6 Chain 3 loops)
Note: When working the slip stitch into the chain, work into the backbump of the chain. If you can not do this, then you will need to chain 2 and work the slip stitch into the second chain from the hook to create the point.
Round 3: Working into the first CH 3 loop, (SC, HDC, DC, CH1, SLST to the CH, DC, HDC, SC), *Working into the next CH3 loop, (SC, HDC, DC, CH1, SLST to the CH, DC, HDC, SC)* repeat from *to* a total of 5 times. SLST to the first ST of the round.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Using gold yarn make 7 french knots to add the center of the flower. If you are not familiar with the embroidery technique, you can start on the back of the flower and use a needle to pull the yarn to the front of the flower somewhere around round 1, then make an over hand knot and sew back down into the center of the flower. Repeat this 7 times until you have 7 knots in the center of the flower. Knot your ends and fasten off.
Idea #3
Add the pieces to a length of twine to create a garland or add twine to one piece to make an ornament.
