Row 24-27: 62 White.

Fasten off leaving about 40 inches of yarn end. This will be used to whip stitch the banner to a piece of dowel rod. Weave in all your other ends.

Embroidery and Dowel Rod

Use a tool to cut the dowel rod to about 1/2 inch longer than the side of the banner you are attaching it to. You can whip-stitch the banner to the dowel rod so that the banner is wider or taller.

To make this banner really special you can embroider the teacher’s name or the grade they teach to the banner. For this one, I decided to embroider 4th grade because that is the grade the teacher will be teaching next year. On the C2C versions of this pattern, I embroidered the teacher’s name or initial onto the banners.

You can embroider using a straight stitch. I recommend writing the name out on a piece of paper to help you gauge the height and width of each letter before trying to embroider them into your piece.

Use your rows as a way to center your letters and keep them straight. I also recommend inserting your needle in the center of your crochet stitches and not between stitches. This will give you more control over your embroidery. The back of your work will be a little messy with the stitches. If this is a problem for you, then I would glue a piece of felt on the back of the banner.

Cut a 24-inch piece of yarn and tie the yarn to both sides of the dowel rod to be able to hang up the banner.

Now your Crochet Pencil Banner is complete and ready to be enjoyed. They work up fast and make great gifts.

  1. These are both super cute. Thank you so much for saying C2C method as we all know it’s not a stitch but a process.
