Crochet a baby bow headband with this free crochet pattern and video tutorial. This is a great last-minute gift for a baby shower.
Below you will find the complete pattern and instructional photos for this crochet baby bow headband pattern. You will also find all the material list, stitch list, gauge, video tutorial, and sizing information.
A Baby Bow Headband in Case it is a Girl
We recently announced that we are expecting another baby. We chose to not find out the gender. But I wanted to be ready in case we do have a little girl. So this crochet baby bow headband is a great project to whip up and have on hand.
Scrap Yarn Project
This project works up quickly, easily, and with very little yarn. Consider making an entire set to give as a baby shower gift. Just dig through your stash for some worsted weight or size 4 yarn and make a bow headband in every color.
The Premium Ad-Free PDF Pattern
Below you will find the free pattern with all the instructional photos and videos needed to complete the pattern, but I am also aware that several of us like to crochet on the couch, in the car, or in bed with a printout of the pattern. This is why I also offer a nicely formatted large font PDF version of the pattern that can be purchased on Etsy or Ravelry. You can print the pattern and take it on the go with you or tuck it into your project bag.

Size: Reference Size Chart
Size | Headband Circumference | Head Circumference |
Small Baby – Preemie – 0/3 Months | 12 inches | 12-14 inches |
Medium Baby – 3/9 Months | 14 inches | 14-16 inches |
Large Baby – 9/12 Months | 16 inches | 16-18 inches |
Toddler – | 18 inches | 18-20 inches |
All babies are born with different head sizes, so measure their heads when possible. The head is typically measured at all infant doctor’s appointments, so parents should have access to the numbers. If you don’t know the baby’s head size then I would start with a medium baby headband.
Special Stitches
YOSLST: Yarn Over Slip Stitch – Yarn over the hook, insert the hook into the next stitch, Yarn Over, and pull the loop through the stitch. (You will have three loops on your hook) Pull the first loop through the second and third loop on the hook. Your stitch is complete.
You will often see the yarn over slip stitch worked in the Back Loop Only so it creates a knit-like rib texture. The yarn over slip stitch can also be called the half double slip stitch.

Finishing the Baby Bow Headband
Now we will turn the flat piece into a headband. Fold the headband in half and weave the side without the hole through the hole on the other side of the headband
Make sure your two ends line up after slipping one end through the hole. These two ends will be the two sides of the bow.
Open up the headband so that the bow lays flat. Take a 15-inch piece of yarn and tie one end around the center of the bow. Wrap the other long end around the center of the bow.
Tie the two ends of the string together and weave in your ends.
Now your Crochet Baby Bow Headband is complete and ready to be enjoyed. They work up fast and make a great gift.
