Easy Crochet Gnome Pattern

My goal for all my crochet gnomes was to keep the pattern nice and easy. The gnome is mostly worked in continuous rounds, so I recommend having a stitch marker on hand. A digital row counter also comes in handy for this pattern.

For this pattern you will need to know how to single crochet, increase and decrease. (I kept the decreases to a minimum). You will also work one row in the front loop only, but if you do not know how to do this, then work it as normal single crochet. It will only change the look a very small bit.

Don’t Miss a Single Pattern

If you love to crochet and you don’t want to miss a single free crochet pattern, make sure to sign up for the newsletter! I will send you a quick email a couple of times a week to let you know what is new. Plus you get access to a variety of crochet related printables.

Purchase the Premium Ad-Free PDF Pattern (Completely Optional)

Below you will find the free pattern with all the instructional photos and videos needed to complete the pattern, but I am also aware that several of us like to crochet on the couch, in the car, or in bed with a print out of the pattern. This is why I also offer a nicely formatted ad-free large font PDF version of the pattern. You can print the pattern and take it on the go with you or tuck it into your project bag or basket.

I moved all the photos to the end of the PDF so you can reference them as you needed them and print just the pattern without using up as much ink. The Premium PDF version of the pattern can be purchased on Etsy.

Crochet Gnome Beard

CH12 with brown yarn

Row 1: SC in the 2nd CH from hook and each CH across. Fasten off. (11)

Cut 24  eight inch strands of yarn for the beard. Group three strands together and attach them to the 7 center single crochet like you would add fringe to a scarf. Then take the remaining 3 strands and add them as fringe to the other side of the center 3 Sc. This will give us our strands for our mustache. (See Photo Below)

Before stuffing your gnome, sew your beard on to you gnome in a U shape. Make sure to leave room for the nose and keep the ends close to the edge of the top of the body to be able to hide them with the hat.

If you choose, braid your mustache and secure with a small piece of yarn.

Give your beard a little trim to shape and lightly mist it with some water, style the beard and let it dry that way to hold that shape.

If you wish, you can untwist the yarn in the beard to have more hair like strands.

Crochet Gnome Assembly Instructions

You can use a yarn needle and yarn to sew each piece together in the order listed below or you can hot glue the pieces together (this is what I did) if they are not going to be played with by kids.

1. Sew Arms to the Body
2. Place Poncho over the top of the body and sew together.
3. Stuff and Sew Feet to the front of the gnome on top of the poncho.
4. Place the beard on the front body with the crocheted row formed into a U shape. Sew to the body.
5. Sew the nose on top of the beard.
6. Stuff the body add sew the hat onto the body.
7. Style his beard and enjoy your gnome!

I truly hope you enjoyed this pattern and will check back for more fun holiday crochet gnomes.
