“Boo!” Says the Pretty Little Ghost, but don’t be scared she is a friendly ghost! The Pretty Little Ghost crochet pattern is a great Halloween decoration that works up quickly with just a few supplies.
Halloween is almost my family’s favorite holiday. (It is hard to compete with Christmas.) We set out decorations in September and have our costumes planned out. We like cute Halloween-theme decorations and this pretty little ghost fits the right in. She sits happily on a shelf with some of our other decorations.
This is a quick and fun project that will take you no more than 2 hours. (I think mine took an hour). All you really need is yarn and thread but the safety eyes and little spider button add to this pretty little ghosts cuteness.

R – Row or Round
Ch – Chain
Sc – Single Crochet
Dc – Double Crochet
Slst – Slip Stitch

FLO – Front Loop Only
BLO – Back Loop Only
MC – Magic Circle (Magic Ring)
Inc – 2 single crochet in the next stitch
Sc2tog – Single Crochet two together

7 inches Tall
Notes:
- The first few rows will be a little tight, but once you make it past them it gets much easier.
- In the first few rows you will increase with both single and half double crochet stitches. Inc = single crochet increase. Half Double crochet increases will be written out.
- In row 14 you will make two spaces for inserting the safety eyes.
- Pattern reads R2: Ch2, turn, 2hdc in first stitch, sc2, slst to first hdc. — Round 2: Chain 2, turn your work. Two half double crochet in the first stitch. One Single crochet into each of the next two stitches. Slip stitch to the first half double crochet.
Pretty Little Ghost Pattern:
R1: In a Magic Circle, sc2, hdc, slst to first sc. (3)
R2: Ch2, turn, 2hdc in first stitch, sc2, slst to first hdc. (4)
R3: Ch1, turn, sc2, 2hdc in the next stitch, 2hdc in the next stitch. (6)
R4: Ch2, turn, Hdc, 2hdc in the next stitch, hdc, sc, inc, sc. slst to first hdc.(8)
R5: Ch1, turn, sc, inc, sc, inc, hdc, 2hdc in next stitch, hdc, 2hdc in next stitch. slst to first sc.(12)
R6: Ch1, turn, (sc, inc) repeat from (to) 5 more times, slst to first sc. (18)
R7: Ch1, turn, (sc 2, inc) repeat from (to) 5 more times, slst to first sc. (24)
R8: Ch1, turn, (sc 3, inc) repeat from (to) 5 more times, slst to first sc. (30)

Note: You will work row 36 twice. You will work in the Front loops only then work into the back loops of row 35. This row creates the ghost’s skirt. This is also a great time to add your Halloeen themed button!
R36: Round 1: Ch1, turn, in the front loops only (slst, skst, 5dc in the next stitch, skst) repeat from (to) 11 more times, slst to the first slst.
R36: Round 2: Do not turn, Ch1 and work into the back loops only, sc7, sc2tog, sc14, sc2tog, sc14, sc2tog, sc7, slst to the first sc. (45)
R37: Ch1, turn, sc13, sc2tog, sc13, sc2tog, sc13, sc2tog, slst to first sc. (42)
R38: Ch1, turn, (sc5, sc2tog) repeat from (to) 5 more times, slst to first sc. (36)

Note: This is a good time to stuff you ghost!

Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Bow:
Note: First chain = the very first chain made of the bow.
Ch 4, 2 dc in the first chain made, ch3, slst to the first chain, 2 dc into the first chain, ch3, slst to the first chain. Fasten off leaving a long tail. Use this long tail to wrap around and cinch the center of the bow and to sew onto the ghost.
Now you have a Pretty Little ghost to set out for some Halloween fun!

This is really cute. Not sure what I’m doing wrong, but I can’t seem to get it right. I follow the instructions and turns and it seems to grow longer on one side and not the other. I’ve attempted about 8 times to do it and on the last somehow I managed to sew the sides together.
You are working on the ghost? What row or rows are you having trouble with?
There appears to be an error starting in row or I don’t understand something. Row 6 ends with 18 stitches, row 7 has 6 increases but still ends with 18 stitches.
Yes, you are correct. I often copy and paste and when I adjust stitch count I left two with 18, all stitch counts beyond that are incorrect. they should have +6 stitches in each row. The pattern is correct. I will get the counts corrected. Thank you so much for letting me know.
On R36, are we supposed to make the scallops match or offset? If I follow the directions they will be offset. Cannot tell from pictures you posted.
The first time you work row 36 you will make scallops the second time you work row 36 you will be single crochet and decreasing.

Hi! Thanks for this great pattern, she’s adorable. However I am totally confused. Is this worked in the round? I assumed so as it starts with a MC, but then you say to turn your work every row. Turn usually means flip your work and work the other direction… I’ve never seen that done from a magic circle. Help please! 🙂
No this pattern is not worked in the round. You Slst to the first stitch at the end of each row and you chain 1 and turn your work. You will need to do this otherwise the holes you make to insert the safety eyes will not be centered on the head of the ghost.
Thank you so much for your quick reply, I really want to get going on this cute little girl 🙂 ok I know how to work a circular step up but I’m still unclear in how you would turn. You slip stitch to the start, so this is forming a tube of sorts, then later a circle of the head after increase rows. In my experience turning is used only for flat pieces, can you explain what you mean by turning the work when the sides are connected? I’d think you’d join both ends, then do the step up to start the new row, and continue around, similar to working in the round which simply doesn’t do the step up. Is that right?
By the way, I am so grateful that you added the reasoning of the eyes sitting right, I’ve actually been having that issue as most amigurumi is worked in the round. I was literally discussing it an hour ago LOL. So irritating when they are slightly unlevel. I will do the step up so rows are even from now on. Thanks for solving that problem for me!

When you complete a row you will slip stitch to the first stitch of the row, ch up 1 and turn your work to work in the other direction.
Thanks for the great pattern can I use embroidery thread for the eyes instead of the safety eyes as my granddaughter just turned 6 months and everything goes in her mouth. I want to be extra careful with the eyes for that reason.

Absolutely instead of the *Ch1, Skip Stitch* just work a Sc into those stitches to create a solid face on the ghost.

I love this ghost. I am at row 36. I have made the ruffle ( first row 36 ) but I don’t understand the second row 36 and all of the the rows after that. What are they for. Do they close the bottom so the stuffing doesn’t fall out? It seems the ruffle finishes it. Thamks
Yes the last rows are just to close up the bottom of the ghost so that the stuffing does not fall out.
I understand working in back loop but just don’t understand where? Are the back loops at the base of scallops on inside of skirt ? I tried back loop of scallop itself but that didn’t make sense to me. Thank you for responding so quickly!
So for that row you are working the row twice, the scallops are worked in the front loops, or the outside loop and then you rework that row in the black loops and begin decreasing to close up the bottom of the ghost.

When I do the second part of row 36 it doesn’t go all the way around the bottom of my ghost. It has the same amount of stitches as yours but has a big opening other than the one I’m closing off after the slip stitch. Is it suppose to be that way?
When you finish the first part of row 36 you should have 48 stitches (same as row 35) on the second round of row 36 we are decreasing 3 times. 7sc + dec (2sc) + 14sc + dec (2sc) + 14sc + dec (2sc) + 7sc = 48 but since we decreased 3 times the actual stitch count should be 45.
I would pull out the second part of row 36 and count how many stitches were in row 35. You can do this by counting the back loops of row 35. You can also count how many shells you have from the first part of row 36. You should have 12 total shells.
I have this same issue. I’ve redone it twice. Not sure what I’m missing but on the first part of row 36 I end up with 12 scallops. But following along with the rest of the row, I still end up with several more Unworked stitches left when I reach 45 total stitches. I can only assume that you would have to end with more than 45 stitches at the end of row 36. I can’t figure out any other solution

12 scallops containing 5 Dc = 60 stitches. I don’t think it’s possible to come out with 45 at the end of row 36. Unless I’m Missing something. 🤔

How do I print the pattern?
All patterns are designed to be viewed on the website. They are not particularly printer-friendly. Some of my designs have a premium PDF version that can be purchased but I am afraid this is an older pattern and does not have that.

The website should be printable. I have not done anything to prevent it from being printed but the patterns are designed to be viewed online. The photos are next to the instructions that they display. If you do find out how to print with your browser, you will probably end up with a pattern that is 20+ pages long. I did go in just now and fix some formatting issues that should help with the length but websites really are designed to be viewed online.
Oh make sure the whole webpage is loaded before your try to print. So scroll down and verify that all photos have fully loaded before asking it to print. Browser can not print a page that is not fully loaded.
