Notes:
-Written in US terms.
– I do not count my turning chain, as a stitch.

Crocheting Around the Wire Frame

Take your grey yarn and your size H (5mm) crochet hook. Make a slip knot and put the loop on your hook. Work single crocheting onto the metal hoop by working the stitches through the center of the hoop. You will work enough stitches to completely cover the hoop. The total number of stitches will vary based on the size of your wire hoop.

Once you have made it all the way around your hoop, just fasten off and clip your yarn ends. We will cover up the yarn ends when we add the flowers.

Crochet Flower Pattern (Make 10)

Using size G (4mm) hook.

Round 1: With Warm Red, Work 10 HDC into a Magic Circle, SLST to first HDC. (10 STs)
Alternative Round 1: CH3, Work 10 HDC into the 3rd CH from the hook, SLST to first HDC.

Now change colors to the flower petal color. Do not fasten off the center color.

Round 2: With Cotton Color, CH1, *SC in next ST, Work 2 DC in next ST* repeat from *to* a total of 5 times. SLST to first SC. (15 STs)

Round 3: *CH3, Work 2DC into next ST, Work 2DC into next ST, CH3, SLST to next ST* repeat from *to* a total of 5 times. SLST to the base of first CH3. (5 petals created).

For round 3, the 2DC are worked into the DC of round 2. The SLSTs are worked into the SC of round 2.

Fasten off your flower petal color (cotton color). Now we will work a round of surface slip stitches with the center flower color (warm red). This part is optional.

Surface Slip Stitch – Take your hook and insert it into the top of a stitch from Round 1. Yarn over on the back of your work with the still attached warm red working yarn. Pull this loop through the flower. You will have two loops on your hook. Pull the first loop through the second loop on the hook. This will create a surface slip stitch.

Now insert your hook into the top of the next stitch in round one and repeat your surface slip stitch. You will work a total of 10 surface slip stitches in a circle pattern.

Once you have completed 10 surface slip stitches, remove the loop from your hook. Insert your hook from the back of your work to the front and pull the last loop to the back of your work. Fasten off your yarn and pull the yarn end all the way through the last loop to create a knot.

Assembling your Modern Flower Crochet Wreath

Now you can assemble your crochet wreath.

  1. First, take a piece of felt and lay it over your hoop. Use a marker to trace the outline of the hoop. This will help you position your flowers.
  2. Next, Position your flowers and leaves on top of the felt. Play with them to get them exactly how you want them. Now use hot glue to glue the flowers and leaves in place or use a yarn needle and the yarn ends to sew all the leaves and flowers in place.
