The Pretty Little Crochet Pumpkin is the perfect project to help decorate your house for fall. I love fall! Between the pumpkins, the leaves changing color, the cooler weather, there really isn’t much not to like about fall. Every fall we decorate our house and pumpkins are often the center piece.
This year I wanted to create a pumpkin with a lot of lovely texture and I think this little crochet pumpkin really is unique. Just a little worsted weight yarn, stuffing and a piece of wood and you have the start of a table centerpiece!
Teal Pumpkin Project
You may be wondering why I chose to make a teal crochet pumpkin. It is not a typical pumpkin color, but you may have seen some teal pumpkins in the stores this year. This is because this year I wanted to help create awareness for the Teal Pumpkin Project.
The Teal Pumpkin Project is trying to shine a light on food allergies during the Halloween season. We all love candy, but for some kids Trick or Treating is not as fun as it could be because they can not eat most of the candy due to food allergies.
To put the fun back into Trick or Treating for these kids, you can provide a non-food treat to your Trick or Treaters. Just pick up some stickers, necklaces, stamps, pens, and other dollar store knick-knacks to offer kids with food allergies. Let the kids pick between a candy or treasure item. Their dentists will thank you!
You can let people know you have non-food treats by placing a Teal Pumpkin by your door or mailbox. You can also go to Teal Pumpkin Project Website, and register your house as a location for these kids to visit. Print a free sign to put outside your house. Let’s make Halloween fun for kids with allergies!
Now let’s get making some pumpkins!

Adding the Ridges
Go ahead and stuff your pumpkin with Poly fill. Thread your tail through a needle. Weave the tail up an down through every other stitch in the last row, insert you driftwood into the top and pull tight. Knot off but do not clip the tail.
To create the ridges of our crochet pumpkin you are going to sew around the outside of the pumpkin, up through the bottom of the pumpkin and come out the center top of the pumpkin. Do this 6 times spacing these long stitches evenly around the pumpkin. Once all six are done, start with the first stitch and pull on the thread until it cinches done the pumpkin to your liking, keeping your tension tight move to the second long stitch and repeat until all the stitches have been tightened and it looks like a pumpkin! Knot your tail, weave in your ends and you are done!
