You will look beautiful in the warmer months with this lightweight crochet lace shawl that only takes one skein of yarn. The free crochet pattern and video tutorial will walk you through this simple 2-row repeat pattern.
Below you will find the complete pattern and instructional photos for this Crochet Lace Shawl pattern. You will also find all the materials, stitches, gauge, video tutorial, and sizing information.
A Crochet Lace Shawl or Scarf
I love a pattern that is versatile. This crochet lace shawl also makes a wonderful crochet lac scarf. You can either wear the shawl like a scarf or only work 1/3 of the shawl rows to make a thin delicate lace scarf.
Same Lace Shawl with a Different Yarn (Yarn Substitutions)
Any light weight yarn will be perfect for this pattern. I used the Caron Skinny Cakes and was able to finish the shawl with about 10 yards leftover. Some other suggestions would be to use a baby yarn like Bernat Baby Softee or a cotton yarn like the Bernat Softee Cotton. Choose your favorite lightweight yarn for this project. Just keep in mind that certain skeins are smaller than others and to make sure to buy enough yarn for the project.
The Premium Ad-Free PDF Pattern
Below you will find the free pattern with all the instructional photos and videos needed to complete the pattern, but I am also aware that several of us like to crochet on the couch, in the car, or in bed with a printout of the pattern. This is why I also offer a nicely formatted large font PDF version of the pattern that can be purchased on Etsy or Ravelry. You can print the pattern and take it on the go with you or tuck it into your project bag.

Notes:
-Written in US terms.
– I do not count my CH2, turning chain, as a stitch.
– This pattern has a very complex stitch count. If you would like to adjust the length of the shawl you can do so by increasing or decreasing the starting chain by multiples of 8.
– The exact amount of yarn in each skein varies. If you can only work 35 rows that is just fine. Just work as many rows as your skein will allow.
CH 311
Row 1: DC into 3rd CH from hook. DC into next 11 STs, *CH2, Skip 2 CHs, SLST into next CH, CH2, Skip 2 CH, DC into next 3 CH.* repeat from *to* a total of 35 times. CH2, Skip 2 CHs, SLST into next CH, CH2, Skip 2 CH, DC into next 12 CH. (129 DC)
Row 2: CH2, turn, DC in first 12 STs, *CH5, Skip the (CH2, SLST, CH2), DC in next 3 STs.* repeat from *to* a total of 35 times. CH5, Skip the (CH2, SLST, CH2), DC in last 12 STs . (129 DC)
Row 3: CH2, turn, DC into first 12 STs, *CH2, Skip 2 CH, SLST to next CH, CH2, Skip 2 CH, DC in next 3 STs.* repeat from *to* a total of 35 times. CH2, Skip 2 CH, SLST to next CH, CH2, Skip 2 CH, DC in last 12 STs.
Rows 4-11: Continue alternating rows 2 and 3 until you have 11 rows.
If you want you can fasten off here and have a nice light summer scarf or continue on to create a light lacey shawl.
Rows 12-37: Continue Alternating working Rows 2 and 3 until you have 37 total rows.
Once all your rows are worked, fasten off and weave in your ends.
Your shawl will look nicer if you block it. Just lightly spray it with water, lay it flat, shape, and let dry.
Now your Crochet Lace Shawl is complete and ready to be enjoyed. This easy 2-row repeat pattern is a great project to take on the go.
