The wavy stripes crochet hand towel is a beautiful and practical addition to your kitchen or bathroom. It buttons together in a way that will keep it from falling off the oven handle or towel holder.
Below you will find the complete pattern and instructional photos for this Wavy Stripes crochet hand towel pattern. You will also find all the materials, stitches, gauge, and sizing information.
Crochet Hand Towel and a Crochet Make Over
A few weeks ago I took a look at my house and I couldn’t see very many crochet items. I crochet all the time, but I haven’t crocheted very much for my home. There was a blanket here and a wall hanging there, but there was so much more that I could make.
I started with a few Velvet Pillows and the Sweet Heart Plant baskets. Now I am turning my attention to the bathrooms and kitchen. That is when these wavy stripes hand towels were crocheted. They add a beautiful handmade touch to both rooms.
Choosing Your Yarn
I like to use cotton for any item that will be washed frequently. Any worsted weight (#4 weight) cotton yarn will work just fine. Yarnspirations Peaches and Creme, and Sugar and Creme work great for this pattern. I used the Peaches and Creme Stripey yarn for my crochet hand towels.
The Premium Ad-Free PDF Pattern
Below you will find the free pattern with all the instructional photos and videos needed to complete the pattern, but I am also aware that several of us like to crochet on the couch, in the car, or in bed with a printout of the pattern. This is why I also offer a nicely formatted large font PDF version of the pattern that can be purchased on Etsy or Ravelry. You can print the pattern and take it on the go with you or tuck it into your project bag.

Notes:
-Written in US terms.
– I do not count my CH1, turning chain, as a stitch.
– To make the towel wider, just chain any odd number of chains.
CH 45
Row 1: SC in the 2nd CH from the hook, DC in next CH, *SC in next CH, DC in next CH* repeat from *to* until the end of the row. (44 STs)
Rows 2-43: CH1, turn, *SC in next ST, DC in next ST* repeat from *to* until end of row.
Note: When working your second row, your single crochets will be worked into the top of the double crochets of the previous row. Your double crochets will be worked into the top of the single crochets of the previous row.
Change to your cream colored yarn.
Rows 44-61: CH1, turn, SC into next 44 STs.
Creating a Loop: CH 10 and fasten off leaving 6 inch yarn tail.
Take your yarn tail and sew the last chain stitch to the last single crochet worked to create a loop. Weave in all your ends.
Now take a new piece of yarn and sew a button to the top corner of your towel on the opposite side of the loop.
To button your towel around your oven handle or towel holder, just gather the top of the striped rows together and fold the cream-colored rows over the towel holder.
Spread out the cream-colored rows and wrap the two top corners around the gathered texture rows. Wrap the loop around the button to hold everything in place. (You can see me do this at the end of the video tutorial.)
Your crochet hand towel is complete and ready to be used.
