A Crochet Basket Crochet Along

What is a crochet along? A crochet along is a crochet pattern that is released in parts over several weeks. We crochet the pattern as a community and share our work over on the Our Crochet Journey Facebook Group.

Best Plant Pots for this Crochet Basket

This basket works best with plant pots that are straight vertical sides and are not tapered. It will still work with tapered plant pots. It will just be loose around the bottom and the basket will have an hour glass like shape. You can see photos of the plant pots I used in the written pattern below.

Part 3: Assembling your Basket

First, take your first and last row of the basket side and use your yarn end to whip stitch them together.

Next, you will grab a new piece of yarn about 24 inches long and begin to whip stitch your basket side on to the basket base. You may notice that the number of rows in the basket side piece is the same as the number of stitches in the last row of your basket base. You can whip stitch the top of one stitch in the basket base to the side of one row in the basket side. This should keep your sewing even around the entire project.

Once you have made it all the way around, you can tie your yarn ends together to secure and weave in your ends. Your basket is complete.

Making Storage Baskets with the same Pattern

You can also use this pattern to make cute storage baskets. You will want to make solid color baskets following all the instructions above then when you are done, simply fold your basket side almost halfway down. The fold will create more stability. These baskets work great for holding small items. They would also be great for making a little gift basket filled with small gifts like a coffee gift basket, get well soon gift basket, or a spa gift basket. (Photo of storage baskets on photo pages)
