The Desert Sunset Shawl Crochet A Long

Guess what! I had so much fun in our last two crochet a longs that I decided to host another. This time will we be making one of the existing patterns on the blog, the Desert Sunset Shawl. This is a beautiful mixed stitch shawl that only uses one cake of Lion Brands Mandala yarn.

Below you will find all the dates and materials needed for this Crochet A Long. I have also included a variety of alternative yarn options for this shawl.

For this Crochet A Long I will be using Lion brand’s Cupcake in the color way Street Lights. You can find the Desert Sunset Shawl Pattern on the blog, but to make this intermediate pattern a little more beginner friendly I will be adding video tutorials provide a better visual aid.

Let’s have a Giveaway

To make this Crochet A Long even more fun, I wanted to try a giveaway each week. Come back and visit this page each week and enter the giveaways. I recommend signing up for my newsletter to get a link in your inbox directly to this page.

The third week, I am doing a ‘Win my Stash’ style giveaway and the winner will receive a box of yarn that has been nicely wound into cakes and labeled, but that is from my personal yarn stash. A photo of the prize is below.

The last giveaway will only be open to US residents due to shipping costs.

That is wonderful. I had never done a CAL until I started hosting them with my own patterns. I think they are a lot of fun. You get to see the pattern worked up in so many different colors and you have a whole community to help you if you get stuck.

I like to do projects with light yarn or cotton. Granny squares, home decor(pillows, baskets), dish clothes, and light weight scarves or shawls.

Does it use the entire cake of Mandala? I have some indie dyes yarn I was thinking of trying (yes, I am always behind on CALs, typically starting after everyone else has finished!) I believe I have just a titch over 500 yards. Will that be enough?

    1. Lindsey

      May 15, 2019 at 8:53 pm

It uses just short of one cake of mandala. I had about 29 yards left over making my shawl take 561 yards, so you may fall just a hair short. You can always take off a row or two at the end if you like.

I love to crochet and am addicted to granny squares. My current main project is leaves that I’m going to somehow make into a blanket.
