The Desert Sunset Shawl Crochet A Long

Guess what! I had so much fun in our last two crochet a longs that I decided to host another. This time will we be making one of the existing patterns on the blog, the Desert Sunset Shawl. This is a beautiful mixed stitch shawl that only uses one cake of Lion Brands Mandala yarn.

Below you will find all the dates and materials needed for this Crochet A Long. I have also included a variety of alternative yarn options for this shawl.

For this Crochet A Long, I will be using Lion brand’s Cupcake in the colorway Street Lights. You can find the Desert Sunset Shawl Pattern on the blog, but to make this intermediate pattern a little more beginner-friendly I will be adding video tutorials to provide a better visual aid.

    • That is wonderful. I had never done a CAL until I started hosting them with my own patterns. I think they are a lot of fun. You get to see the pattern worked up in so many different colors and you have a whole community to help you if you get stuck.

    • You are more than welcome to join the CAL at anytime. We would love to have you join us. Just work at your own pace. Some people finish part 1 on day one and others get started during week three.

    • I love this shawl, thank you! My favorite in the summer is probably nice lacy shawls or most anything in cotton. I’m in Alabama so we need clothing with as much ventilation as possible 🙂

  2. Does it use the entire cake of Mandala? I have some indie dyes yarn I was thinking of trying (yes, I am always behind on CALs, typically starting after everyone else has finished!) I believe I have just a titch over 500 yards. Will that be enough?

    • It uses just short of one cake of mandala. I had about 29 yards left over making my shawl take 561 yards, so you may fall just a hair short. You can always take off a row or two at the end if you like.
