Princess Crochet Cape Coat: Free Pattern

Don’t let your girl be a frozen princess during the holidays, keep her warm with this crochet cape coat pattern. This pattern works up surprisingly fast using mostly double crochet.

My daughter is at a wonderful age right now. She has just started to enjoy dressing up. She also loves to make herself pretty by putting on dresses, shawls and jewelry. It is just sad when the little ones have to bundle up on Halloween and you don’t get to see too much of their costume. The crochet cape coat can be added to any princess costume.

The crochet cape keeps them warm and stays close to their body. They can reach through the arm holes and carry their candy bucket without exposing their little bodies to the cold. This cape is great for all ages, so I have included patterns for ages toddler through girls size 16.

As an extra service to my readers I do sell an ad-free large print PDF version of the pattern. You can purchase it for $3.49 or view the full free pattern below.

This cape works great as a coat for fall weather. Let them feel like a princess everyday. My daughter likes to use this cape for dress up. I just love watching her prance around in it.

Make the cape coat to match their favorite princess or in their favorite color. I am making a second cape coat in Christmas colors for the video tutorial. Make sure to check it out!

2-3 Skeins of Red Heart With Love or another Worsted Weight Size 4 yarn
10-20 Yds of Accent color in Worsted Weight Yarn (370yds/7 oz per skein)
Size H 5 mm Crochet Hook (Or hook that meets gauge)

Button Closure
**Shop my Favorite Tools Here**

Notes about Materials:
I was able to complete the toddler size with less than one skein of Red Heart With Love (370yds/ 7ozs) and around 15 yards of an accent color. Some of my testers needed a little more than one skein of Red Heart With Love. It will depend on how close you gauge matches the recommended gauge.

I found a pretty little button closure at Joann’s, they can be found with the buttons and sometimes with the sewing notions. You can also use a large button and crochet a chain loop to use to close the top of the cape.

crochet cape sewing instructions
Black lines are where you will sew the panels together.

Sewing Instructions:

You will be sewing together from the collar to the shoulder then down the shoulder where the fabric is rounded. (See Photo above) The rounded section is the first few rows that we increased at the edge. This will give you a pretty cap sleeve look.

For the Toddler and size 4, you will sew down the side of the first 3 rows. The size 8 and 12, sew down the side of 4 rows, and size 16, sew down the side of 5 rows for the rounded shoulder.

Then use embroidery floss to sew on your button closure or use a chain loop and a large button as a closure.

Now your Princess crochet cape is complete.
