A light air Southwest Crochet Kimono is perfect for your summer and fall wardrobe. This kimono can be made with or without the southwest design in the center. It is designed as an easy Kimono style top using only chains and double crochet to create.

I moved to the southwest a number of years ago and I have been in love with all the southwest motifs. For this pattern I wanted to use a clean modern form of these motifs in this design. I kept to two colors with a simple step pyramid like design. When the panels are sewn together you will get a diamond shape. The motif only requires a main and accent color keeping this design easy to follow.
This crochet kimono is worked up as two rectangles, then sewn together. This construction makes this a very easy to make pattern. There is some light airy stitches in the center back and on the sides to help keep you from getting too warm in the summer or fall.
Let’s talk about this yarn! I selected the Lion Brand ZZ Twist. The Z twist of this yarn (the direction the fibers were twisted together) keep this yarn from unwinding as you work and gives you amazing stitch definition. I also love the feel of this yarn. It is silky and great against the skin.

Crochet Kimono Sewing Instructions
Now, take your crochet kimono and lay your two pieces together with the triangle points pointing away from each other. Using a yarn needle and a long piece of yarn, start at the bottom center back and sew up 17 inches for the XS/S size, 19 inches for the M/L size, and 20.5 inches for the XL/XXL size with a whip stitch. Sew where the blue line is in image 1.
Next, fold the panels in half so that you can only see one and a half of the triangle motifs and starting at the bottom sew up 9.5 inches for the XS/S size, 11 inches for the M/L size, and 13 inches for the XL/XXL size with a whip stitch on each of the outer sides. Sew where the blue lines are in image 2.
Now your Southwest Crochet Kimono is ready to be shown off. Wear it to dress up any jean and tank top look or belt it over a dress!
