I love crocheting for my kids. They are at an age where they look forward to seeing what I have made them. When my 18 month old daughter say her cactus she reached out and said, “Please.” She proceeded to hug her new little friend.

The crochet cactus pattern is great because you can use scraps of blanket yarn from other projects. The pot and flower can be made from any color. The flower I made is from left over Bernat Blanket Ombre yarn that I used for Spike the Sloth.

First lay your Cactus flat and position the safety eyes or embroider on eyes. Remember that the piece will stretch a little when you stuff it, so place the eyes a little closer together than you want them to be.
On one end use the long starting tail to run a gathering stitch around the stitches in the side of the rows. Use this to gather all the stitches tightly together and secure them with a knot.
Use the other long tail to sew the Cactus to the cactus pot.
Now use the side opening of the cactus and stuff it with Polyfil. Using another strand of yarn sew up the side seam. I like to use an invisible stitch or whip stitch. Learn how to sew crochet pieces together with this video tutorial.
Sew on the Cactus flower or top hat and embroider a little mouth and eyelashes on our cactus friend using black acrylic yarn or blanket yarn.
Your Crochet Cactus Plushie is complete and ready for snuggling.
