The Perfect Gift for Pin Collectors
Guess what? My niece collects Disney pins! When I found this out I was thrilled because I knew the perfect gift to make her. After a nice long facetime, I found out the colors of her room and I got to see some of her pins. Right away I had this crochet pin banner on my hook. There is a darker and lighter section on the banner to display different color pins. She was thrilled to receive it! I hope this pattern makes the perfect crochet gift for someone you know.
More than Just Pins
This pin banner can also be used as a jewelry organizer. You can easily earring on the banner and add buttons to the banner to hold bracelets and necklaces.
Customizing Your Crochet Pin Banner
This banner is very easy to adjust. Just add any number of chains to the starting chain to make the banner taller. Add any even number of rows to the project to make the banner wider. The final project should have an odd number of rows.
The fringe can be made longer or shorter to get your desired look. I used a book to help make my fringe a consistent size. You can use a different size book to make a different size fringe.

Rows 12-22: Change yarn color to dark green. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have a total of 11 rows.
Note: With the dark green color, leave a 15 inch yarn end. This will give you some yarn to sew the dowel rod to the banner.
Rows 23-33: Change yarn color to light green. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have a total of 11 rows.
Fasten off and weave in your ends. (Except the long dark green yarn end.)
Adding the Fringe
Each section of fringe is made up of 8 pieces of yarn that each measure 18 inches. Each section of fringe has 6 strands of light green yarn, 1 strand of dark green yarn and 1 strand of buff (tan) yarn. There is 17 sections of fringe.
In total you will need:
102 strands of light green yarn
17 strands of dark green yarn
17 strands of tan yarn
The best and quickest way to cut these strands, is to wrap your yarn around a hardback book that is 8.5 inches tall (of close to that). Wrap the yarn around the book as many times as you need to, then cute one side of the yarn as shown in the photo below. This will give you strands of yarn that are close to the same size.
To add fringe to your banner, first start by making groups of yarn strands that are 6 light green strands and 1 dark green and tan strand.
1. Fold the strands of yarn in half to make a loop on one side.
2. Using a hook (a large hook is best), insert the hook into on of the gaps at the bottom of the banner. Insert the hook from the back of the banner to the front of the banner. Use the hook to pull the loop you created through the gap. Only pull the loop through the gap about 2 inches.
3. Using the hook or your fingers, pull all the yarn ends through the loop.
4. Lightly pull on the yarn ends until the loop is tight. You can pull on 1-2 strands at a time to adjust the look of the top of the fringe.
Repeat this process for every section of fringe.
If you like, you can use a steamer to straighten the fringe and give it a cleaner look. After all your fringe is attached, brush the fringe out and use scissors to cut the bottom of the fringe so that it is even.
Attaching the Dowel Rod
Next we will attach the dowel rod. Place your dowel rod about two inches from the top of the banner. Fold the banner over the dowel rod. Using the long yarn end of dark green yarn, sew the dark section on the banner down using a whip stitch.
Use a new strand of light green yarn to sew the light green areas of the banner together. You can sew one light green side then make shallow stitches through the dark green section to reach the other light green side. Weave in your ends.
Cut a 20 inch strand of light green yarn and attach it to each side of the dowel rod with a knot.
Now your Crochet pin banner for collectors is complete and ready to be enjoyed. They work up fast and make a great gift.
