Creating a Crochet Cup Cozy
Lately I have been looking for ways to use up my yarn stash. Small projects keep my hands busy and make wonderful “just because” gifts. I just love this design because it works for any type of cup.
Just slip the button loop through the handle of you mug and wrap the cozy around the cup, button it up and you are good to go. For a travel cup, button your cozy and slip it on the cup like a sleeve. It is just that easy.
The Color, the Texture and More
I had so much fun making this cup cozy that I wanted to make more variations. Once you work the increase rows you can easily change the stitch to add more character. Below I will give you instructions on how to make a smooth crochet cup cozy or a ribbed crochet cup cozy.
This is a perfect pattern to raid your stash and use up extra bits of yarn. Make yours cozy stripes, use variegated yarns, solid colors and more. It is also a great way to use up random mismatched buttons.
A Versatile Crochet Cup Cozy
Why make a mug cozy or a cup sleeve when you can make something that fits both? Just grab your favorite mug and travel cup and place buttons on your cup cozy so that you can use it for both containers. One crochet cup cozy to fit them all!

This is why I also offer a nicely formatted ad-free large font PDF version of the pattern. You can print the pattern and take it on the go with you or tuck it into your project bag or basket.
I moved all the photos to the end of the PDF so you can reference them as you needed them and print just the pattern without using up as much ink. The Premium PDF version of the pattern can be purchased on Etsy of Ravelry.

Using a spare piece of yarn and a yarn needle, sew a 1/2 button to row 37, or grab your favorite coffee cup and use that to decide where to place the button. In the video, I used two buttons but afterwards decided only one button is needed.
Once your button is sewn on you are already to have a cup of coffee or wrap it up to use as a gift. If you are gifting the coffee cup cozy you might want to use the printable cup labels shown in a photo above. You can get access to that printable by signing up for my email newsletter.
