If you like a modern but natural look, then look no further than this Crochet Plant Hanger Pattern. This plant hanger can be used to hold air plants of many shapes and sizes. It will also look wonderful with flower or greenery stems and faux succulents.
I have to confess, I do not have a green thumb. I forget to water regular plants and I over water succulents. But I love the look of greenery in the home. It adds a beautiful natural ambiance to a room.
Below you will find the complete pattern and instructional photos for this crochet plant hanger. You will also find all the materials, stitches, gauge, and sizing information. If you would like all of this in a nicely formatted printable format, you can purchase the Ad-Free Large Print PDF Pattern.
Then I stumbled upon air plants and thought, “Just maybe I can do this.” But I knew that I needed to be able to put these plants up high at eye level so I did not forget to water them.
Air plants are interesting, because they need no soil to survive. They get everything they need from the air and when it rains. Most air plants can survive by simply being misted a few times a week or placed in a bowl of water 1-2 times a week. I purchased this 12 Live Air Plant Variety Pack from Amazon and got to work on designing a beautiful way to display them.
Of course when it comes to solving a problem I often turn to my yarn and crochet hook. I feel like I can do anything with these two items. Cotton was the best choice of yarn for a natural look and feel. I pulled my inspiration from both modern and boho home decor.
I decided on a simple and modern design. Keep it simple and let the plants beauty shine. I have provided a pattern for the base of the plant hanger as well as 3 patterns for the plant holders that can be hung on the buttons shown in the photos.
Please note that if you hang a heavy plant at the base of the project you will need to secure the bottom of the hanger as well as the top. I used a small hook with a foam sticker on the back to do this, but a nail or screw will work as well.

Notes:
- Pattern written in US terms.
- Small and Larger Plant Hanger is crocheted in continuous rounds.
- For the Plant Hanger Base, I do not count my turning chain as a stitch.
- Creme de la Creme yarn is slightly thinner then a standard size four yarn. Feel free to omit a few rows in the base pattern to adjust it to your desired length.

Optional Single Crochet Border.
Starting at the end of Row 33, Ch1, turn so you can work down the side of the rows. Work 2 Sc into the side of each row until you reach the corner, Ch1, turn and work 1 Sc into the opposite side of the starting chain, Ch1 when you reach the corner, turn and work 2 Sc into the side of each Double Crochet row until you reach the last corner. Fasten off at the corner.
Note: The Single Crochet border only goes around 3 sides of the project.
Lay your plants on top of the Crochet plant hanger to decide where to put you buttons. Sew on your buttons using a needle and thread or embroidery floss.
Small Plant Holder:
I used the Small Plant holder for hanging small air plants.
R1: Work 6 Sc into a MC. (6)
R2: *Work 2 Sc into the next St* repeat from *to* a total of 6 times. (12)
R3-6: Work a Sc into the next 12 Sts. (12)
R7: Chain 7, Slst to the next St. Fasten off and weave in all your ends.
Larger Plant Holder:
The Larger plant Holder is great for bulb based air plants.
R1: Work 6 Sc into a MC. (6)
R2: *Work 2 Sc into the next St* repeat from *to* a total of 6 times. (12)
R3: *Work a Sc into the next St, Work 2 Sc into the next St* repeat from *to* a total of 6 times. (18)
R4-8: Work a Sc into the next 18 Sts. (18)
R9. Chain 7, Slst to the next St. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Chain Plant Hanger:
I used the Chain Plant Hanger to hang very spiky air plants, like the one pictured above. The chain can also be woven around the leaves of fake succulents or the stem of a group of flowers.
R1: CH8, Slst to first Ch to create a loop. Ch 24, Slst to the 8th chain from the hook. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Feel free to change the Chain 24 to any number in order to fit the plat you are hanging.
Use the loops on the plant holders to attach your plants to the Crochet Plant Hanger and hang the finished project in a spot that gets indirect sunlight and enjoy!
