Crochet Dinosaur Basket: Raptor

A Crochet Dinosaur Basket is the perfect addition to any child’s room. We are definitely dinosaur fanatics in this house and when I discovered a needed something to hold the kid’s toys, it was the perfect opportunity to add a little extra something to their rooms.

This basket is the second and middle size of a set that I will be releasing. The basket is a very easy design with a graph worked into the side to give it a lot of character. If you don’t want to miss the other two baskets, make sure to sign up for my email newsletter and you won’t miss a single new free pattern. you can see the Triceratops basket here.

To make a nice clean picture of a raptor, I used the tapestry crochet stitch. This is a wonderful stitch for doing color work. I have included instructions below for how to complete this stitch as well as a quick video tutorial.

If you love to crochet, then you will love my crochet themed weekly planner. This is a free printable available exclusively to my newsletter subscribers. You can subscribe to me newsletter below.

Adding the Twisted Rope Handles

Cut four pieces of rope about 12 inches long. You will be using two pieces of rope on each side.

Decide where you want the handles to start and end. Feel free to mark this with a stitch marker.

Use your hook to pull one end of the first rope through a stitch in the second row from the top.

Use your hook to pull one end of the second piece of rope through the stitch directly under where you inserted the first rope. On the inside of the the basket knot these two pieces of rope together.

One the outside of the basket gently twist your two pieces of rope together. You will need to experiment with how many twists you will need. This them too much and they will not lay right. This is shown in the video guide.

Now use your hook to pull the second ends of the rope through the dinosaur basket. One rope end will be pulled through the second to top stitch and the other through the stitch directly below it. Knot the ends together and take a look at your handle.

If you are happy with how the twist looks and the length of the handle then you can cut the excess rope off the other side of the knot. Repeat this process for the second handle.

Your Crochet Dinosaur Basket is complete. If you love this basket keep an eye out for the next basket in this series. I will be releasing a total of three dinosaur baskets that will nest inside of each other. The Triceratops is the smallest crochet dinosaur basket of the three.
